Band practice

I went to my first Wasatch Winds Symphonic Band practice last night. It was quite the experience. For someone like me, who hasn't played my instrument of choice since 8Th grade, this experience was like someone learning to drive in a little Podunk town with one stop sign and then moving to somewhere like LA or New York and trying to drive with the millions of other drivers. I lost my spot in the music numerous times, couldn't keep up with fingering. My brain was reading the music but my fingers couldn't keep up with the notes. I play the piano as well and when I practice by myself, I can stop and muddle through a passage of music or work on a couple of measures at a time. With a band, you just keep going. There's no stopping for anyone to go back and pound out the measures they're having problems with. True, it was the first practice of the night and it's pretty normal for a band to muddle through the pieces without stopping to really perfect a few measures.

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that I really really really need to practice. A LOT. Thankfully they let us take our music home to practice so I will definitely be marking my music and going through it till I can no longer pucker my lips to play my flute.

Done

I am so happy that I'm done moving! Now comes the almost unwelcome task of unpacking. As it would have it, I've moved into a smaller space and I need to throw out a few things. Maybe, once everything is cleaned up, I'll take pictures. My younger brother, the previous tenant of the space, has left the bathroom a complete mess. Thank goodness for Scrubbing Bubbles and some pretty amazing toilet cleaner. It'll probably take a another day or two to get the shower to the point where I won't be afraid to shower in it. Its pretty nasty I tell you. Anyway, I'm running out of things to write about today. I'm not feelin' it...

No time

It's been roughly 5 weeks since I last posted anything. Work and school have almost literally sucked the life out of me. My dad and I just got internet at the house, which does make things a lot easier. Even then...I really don't have time to do any real studying. Here's a typical day for me: 7 a.m. alarm goes off. try to wake up. press snooze a couple of times. wouldn't be human if i didn't, right? 7:15 a.m. actually get out of bed 7:20 a.m. shower 7:30 a.m. get dressed for work 7:40 a.m. try to remember to: fill my water bottle grab a can of soup & crackers for lunch grab CNA books & supplies eat something on the way out the door then curse myself for forgetting to grab my smock and name tag. unlock/lock the front door, again. 7:45 a.m. drive to work 8 a.m - 4 p.m work 4 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. take coworker(s) home. 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. CNA class 9:15 p.m. change into pj's. find s...

Hooray!

I've lost 9.2 pounds in the last 6 days. I'm excited! The picture really doesn't have anything to do with weight loss per se, but it does have the word reduce on it and I took the picture, so I'm putting it up. :-]
